OVERVIEW
Caring for the whole person is at the center of our Continuum Home Nursing Care philosophy. It's a holistic approach that cares for the mind, body, spirit, and well-being. Instead of just doing for your loved ones, we use every moment to do with them. Elevating their sense of purpose and control and turning little tasks into memorable moments.
Nurses provide medical care in a variety of settings including a patient's home. Patients may need home medical care for many different reasons. In some cases, a patient may still require on-going care, but not enough monitoring or treatment to require an inpatient hospital stay. That's where a home health nurse can come in.
Home Health Nursing Responsibilities
Home health nurses provide medical care and treatment to patients in their home. The type of responsibilities a nurse may have will vary widely. Nurses may meet with patients shortly after they are discharged from the hospital. They may perform an assessment, measure vital signs and make sure the patient understands how to take their medication.
Nurses working in home health may also provide treatment, such as wound care, dressing changes, administer IV medication and change catheters. In addition, home health nurses may assess the patient's home environment to determine if changes or accommodations are needed due to the patient's medical needs. All ages of patients with various types of conditions may require home health nursing. Patients may have chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure or cystic fibrosis, which requires home health care. In other cases, acute illness or injury may create a need for temporary home health nursing.
Strengths Needed To Work In Home Health
Our Nurses have strengths and the ability to work well independently. They possess good clinical as well as people management skills and able to communicate well with all types of people of all ages. Since they are qualified they are able to explain most of the complex medical information to both patients and their family members.
The cost for home care can vary substantially based on where, geographically, care is needed, the type of care, and the amount of care. The only way to truly understand the cost of quality home care is to arrange for an assessment of the individual who will be receiving the care. Generally, an assessment is done in the care recipient's home, so we can observe the home environment and discuss how to make the home safe for the person needing care, but Getacare will work with families to meet individual needs.
